The Tudor City group of buildings was built in the mid-1920s when they replaced a neighborhood of notorious slaughterhouses, breweries and gangs. One can reach Tudor City from 42nd Street by two flights of stairs on either side of the street, between 1st and 2nd Avenues.

An Oasis in the Heart of New York

The two parks that are part of Tudor City are beautifully maintained and are a real oasis, only a few blocks away from two major tourist attractions – the Grand Central Terminal and the UN building. The parks are maintained by the residents themselves and volunteers; supplies are purchased from donations.

During the summer there are concerts in the parks, as well as holiday celebrations at Easter, Halloween, Chanukah and Christmas. There is also an annual Art Show. Tudor City Greens was formed in 1987 to assume ownership and responsibility for the parks, under the auspices of The Trust for Public Land, when Tudor City buildings were being converted to cooperative ownership by the sponsor, Time-Equities.
